Home Pricing Spec Version: v0.9.2a

The API for Open Data.

W10N is the easiest way to access and utilize open data via well-defined, meaningful URLs.

How it Works

W10N (webification) defines a common way to expose data stores (composite files, databases, data models, remote services, etc.) on the web platform. The core idea of webification is to make inner components of a data store directly addressable and accessible via well-defined and meaningful URLs. Check out the spec for more details.

Click on these examples to see the behavior of normal vs. webified files:

Normal Webified
mars_rover.jpg mars_rover.jpg [raster data]
jason1_l2_gdr.nc jason1_l2_gdr.nc
aqua_airs_l2.hdf aqua_airs_l2.hdf
saturn_rings.jpg saturn_rings.jpg

Notice that the file contents are now accessible via a URL. Whether you want to expose log files, databases, complex file formats, or simply explore webified open data, W10N is the tool for you.

Usage

Open data is difficult to work with. We have webified open data from numerous sources to make it easier for you to build applications, conduct research, and educate others.

Case Study

Traditional planetary and earth science data files are difficult to work with. Don't believe us? Try downloading and working with a NetCDF file. They often require custom code or applications to simply open. The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory used W10N to create various web applications to help scientists explore and visualize planetary and earth science data.

Below are some screenshots of the various applications:

These applications greatly reduced the time and cost of mission operation and research. Also, to emphasize the usability of the W10N API, these applications were developed by a college intern in a short amount of time.
